14 February 2012 - Cycling Warnambool

Today we headed over to Warnambool. Clare wanted her Valentines Day present to be some time cycling the rail trail into Warnambool. We dropped her off at the town of Kooroit and she headed off. This area of Victoria was settled largely by Irish immigrants and Kooroit hosts a large Irish festival every year. Port Fairy was originally called Belfast before the name was changed in the late 1800's.

Warnambool has some fantastic parks near the water and we headed to one of those while we waited for Clare to arrive. After a spot of lunch, I headed back on the bike along the rail trail to Port Fairy. Clare took the kids shopping for our provisions for the next few days and then met me back at Port Fairy. We enjoyed a beverage at what is apparently Victoria's oldest licensed premises, The Caledonian Inn, before heading back to camp.
