15 January 2012 - Menindee to Wentworth

Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and it was time to leave our delightful campsite in Copi Hollow and head to Wentworth en-route to Adelaide.

Packing up the tent came with it's usual challenges, keeping one eye on the kids while trying to do some actual work. There was enough to keep them interested with people fishing and catching carp around us. A young lad had caught a carp in his yabbie net so Em and Lachie adopted the fish for a while, given that carp cannot be thrown back due to their 'feral animal' status.

Once packed we were on the road for the 250km trip to Wentworth. Nothing particularly exciting, plenty of emus and about half of it on dirt road. We did stop for a cup of tea and the now obligatory cheese and tomato sandwich at Pooncarrie, about the halfway mark. This is a lovely, well kept town on the banks of the Darling River.  Once again, no water is spared when times are good and the lawns of the local park were lush.

We camped on the banks of the Darling River at the Willow Bend Caravan Park. We decided not to put the annex on the camper trailer up and this certainly saved us some time.

Wentworth is at the confluence of the Murray and Darling Rivers and a large lookout has been erected by the local Rotary Club. We checked this out before heading to the local Services club and treating ourselves to a cheap meal. It does not get much more Australian than the Sunday night carvery at the local club but at $12 for  a roast dinner, we were not about to look elsewhere.
