10 January 2012 - No sun in Broken Hill

Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled it is cloudy, but what is going on? We were somewhat dreading Broken Hill in Summer, but this is pure bliss. Mid 20s and cloud, couldn't ask for more.

We set up our Tent today in record time - it is definitely getting easier, though we are learning the hard way that sometimes shortcuts just don't work (as we realised when the entire contents of the tent ended up on the floor, not the bed) Still, feeling better about short stays now, and may even consider using the tent for a 2 night stint sometime soon.

We headed up to Silverton (about 30km north of town) to take advantage of the cloud and coolness and it is beautiful. A lot of the town was shut up, but thats probably to be expected on a Tuesday in a "ghost town". We took in the scenery, walked the dirt roads and topped it all off with a beer at the Silverton Hotel. Ahh.......

On the way home we saw a few kangaroos, camel and an emu which made it for the kids. Though Em says the best part of her day was a swim at the campground pool?? Perhaps we should have left her in Concord.
