22 January 2012 - The Tour Down Under winds up

A lovely lazy start to the day and I met an old work colleague Susan for coffee on the beach.  What a wonderful break from the kids, but not for long enough before I was back to the chaos of getting organized for our trip into the city to watch the final round of the Tour Down Under.

After hot dogs (or woof sausages as Em calls them) in Elder Park we headed for a vantage point on the end of William St. This would allow us to see the riders twice as they passed on their 20 laps of the city. Man was the sun beating down on us, and as usual it didn’t take the kiddies long to get into the spirit of things. We lay under a tree for about 5 mins, listened for the motorbikes and then ran to the fence to cheer the Aussies on.

Nick took advantage of meeting a mate in town to leave us behind and head for a few cold beers, and we headed for a little respite on Rundle St, but not for long as we were back to cheer on the final laps. Very exciting indeed and a big congrats to Simon Gerrans (Greenedge) for the win!

Home but our trip was not without a little drama as I lost my phone at the Railway St, Nick contacted them, they located it, and we were back into the city in the car to retrieve it to top off the day.

Despite rather knackered kids, we hit the beach for sunset. I thought it a shame to miss the sun setting over the water here given we are camping beside the beach. It did result in a very wet and eventually nudie Lachie running through the waves and also climbing the dunes and running down at high speed – a sight for sore eyes indeed after a long day. It was well after 9pm before we got the kids to bed and some peace……..agh!!!

Another bottle of fabulous wine later and we are wondering when our “holiday” will really start. I am thinking now the Tour is over and our race to Adelaide is complete we can soon sit back, chill, fly kites, fish and drink more wine…..let’s see if that ever happens.
